John Sfakianakis

Group General Manager and Chief Economist, Banque Saudi Fransi

Dr. John Sfakianakis is the Group General Manager and Chief Economist of Banque Saudi Fransi.  He regularly contributes articles to international and local printed media and is frequently a commentator in major regional and international news channels, such as Al Arabiya, BBC, CNBC, CNN, and Bloomberg.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Sfakianakis served for three years as SABB’s Chief Economist in Riyadh where he issued the first business confidence index report by a Saudi-based bank.  He was also the Chief Regional Economist for Samba Financial Group.  Dr. Sfakianakis also worked for the United National Development Program, seconded at the Ministry of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia, where he served as part of the 8^th planning team for Saudi Arabia. He was also Senior Financial Advisor to the Gulf Research Center (GRC) and continues through today to be Member of the Editorial Board of the GRC.  Dr. Sfakianakis has also worked for the World Bank in Washington, D.C. in the Middle East and East Asia departments.

Dr. Sfakianakis studied Economics at the London School of Economics and received a master’s degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies.  He earned his PhD from Harvard University.
