Dr. Ihsan Ali Bu-Hulaiga

Chairman, Joatha Group

Dr. Ihsan Ali Bu-Hulaiga is the Founder of Joatha Group, a consulting firm established in 2001 in Riyadh. Later he founded Joatha Commercial Investment and Business Development Limited with divesfied interests in knowledge content, media, and manufacturing.

With over 30 years of experience in banking, business consulting and advising, and project initiation and development, Dr. Bu-Hulaiga has served in a number of public and private leadership roles. Throughout his career, he has served three terms with the Shura Council and Chairmanship of the Financial Affairs Committee in the Majlis. He is currently a Member of a 30-person Advisory Board to the GCC Supreme Council. In addition, Dr. Bu-Hulaiga is a Board Member and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Tasnee, a Saudi public joint stock company; Founder and Sponsor of Malath Insurance and Reinsurance Company; and Founder, Promoter, and Board Member of Watan Investment & Securities. He was a two-term Member of the Board of the Saudi Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) and a Member of the Board of the Saudi Economic Society.

He began his career in 1979 by working for two leading Saudi banks, National Commercial Bank and Arab National Bank, and then moved into academia at King Fahad University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). In 1990 he joined the industry by working for the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting, in Doha, Qatar; first as a Senior Expert and later as a Secretary General.

Dr. Bu-Hulaiga holds a B.S. and MBA from KFUPM in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and in 1987 earned a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, specializing in Decision Support Systems. He has authored a number of journal articles and columns on the subjects of business, knowledge-based economies and economic transformation, and has authored a book on Reforming the Saudi Economy (in Arabic).
